With chilly fall weather comes an influx of pumpkin-flavored treats: beer, coffee, cocktails, ice cream and more. Forget the traditional pumpkin pie; pumpkin bagels and pancakes for all!
Starbucks is not the only place getting into the pumpkin spirit with their popular Pumpkin Spice Latte. According to an article from New York Magazine, the number of pumpkin drinks has increased 400 percent during the past five years.
Don’t let these treats trick you into consuming extra calories.
Pumpkin drinks tend to have a lot of calories because they come with high-fat milk and sugary syrups. For example, a Grande Pumpkin Spice Latte with whole milk and whipped cream can cost 410 calories. Small changes to your order can make a huge difference. By asking for nonfat milk and no whipped cream, you can save up to 150 calories.
When it comes to popular fall pumpkin beers, there are huge caloric differences, depending on the brand. Southampton Pumpkin Ale has 165 calories/12 oz., while Samuel Adams Harvest Pumkin Ale has 199 calories/12 oz. Choose a lower-calorie brand to enjoy the festive flavor without adding extra L-B’s.
Wait, don’t go punkin chunkin just yet!
